Taxi service SCAM at Lisbon Airport!
Upon arrival at Lisbon Airport you’ll probably want to get to your hotel as fast as you can by taking a taxi. Over the years, there have been various concerns about the taxi service at Lisbon Humberto Delgado International Airport.
Here’s what you need to know:
Some taxi drivers tend to overcharge tourists, especially when you are not acquainted with the local fares of the country.
A driver might insist on a fixed price that is way higher than the meter fare. The driver might explain that it’s because you are heading to a popular tourist destination.
So, how can you avoid these common issues?
- Ask the taxi driver politely to use the meter so you end up paying the correct price.
- If they don’t want to use the meter or they say it’s not working, then it’s very important to agree on a fare before starting the journey!
- If you prefer to prevent the hustle, using BOLT or UBER are good alternatives since both of them are widely used in the country and come with a fixed price.
- There is always public transportation too! The metro has a stop right at the airport and makes it super easy to get around and about (and cheap).
Now that you are aware, keep this in mind:
- You can find licensed taxi’s just outside the doors of both T1 and T2. You can easily locate the taxi services by following the signs,
- The price for a ride from the airport to the City center should range between 10€ and 15€.
- Don’t accept more than 20 euro since this is already pushing the limit!
- Install UBER or BOLT before arriving in Lisbon.
It was important to get this out there to prevent more tourists from being scammed.
